<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/96709/trunk_alignment.jpg"></center><p>i have been trying to get the gap on the left and right of the bottom of the trunk equal on both sides when it is closed, and have been unable to do so without messing up the top.

so, i took off both of the taillights to take a look at what was going on back there, and i noticed that the bumper is a lot closer to the trunk 'lip' with weatherstripping that is visible when the trunk is open on the passenger side than the driver side (see pic for illustration, and no, that's not my car).

I can't see a way to realign the bumper towards the passenger side, because then i guess the bumper would be off with the right rear quarter panel???

the car must've been hit and had the right rear quarter panel repainted as i've seen evidence that it has been.

do you think there's anyway to fix this at all?
