Default Time for new tires: Dunlop FM901 vs Kumho ASX

I hate buying new tires...the damn things cost so much money.

Well...the Continental ContiExtremeContact were good and lasted ~24,000 miles but were almost $900.00 and I don't want to pay that much again.

I'm looking at either the Dunlop Sport FM901 which are $622.00 in the 235/40-18...

...or the Kumho Ecsta ASX which are $696.00 in the same size.

I would think the Dunlop's are the clear winner but they have a treadwear rating of 200AA vs the Kumho's 400AA. The Continintal were 420AA and lasted 24,000 miles...so the Dunlop's would last what...not even 12,000 miles?

Anyway...does anyone here have either of these two tires or could recommend something good around the same price?

Most important factors to me are ride noise, then handling, then comfort.

Default can't really compare treadwear ratings across different manufacturers...

as i recall, the treadwear is indicative of tread life compared to the individual manufacturer's other tires. so you can't compare continental to dunlop or kumho. it sucks because i wish there was a universal rating that we can use to compare tires amongst ALL manufacturers.

from what i've seen and heard about Dunlops in general is that they wear out quick.

i'd go with the kumho...great bang for your buck. although it doesn't look like much of a performance tire compared to the dunlop

Default What about the Fuzion ZRi. Higher ranked than either tire you mentioned.

same price as the Dunlop and are made my Bridgestone under the generic label of Fuzion.

Default i just got some toyo proxy 4...

they are great-sticky,quiet, and they should last a while-wear rating of 300. I got them for $550 out the door with a little haggling

Default Kumho ASX

I've had these Kumho's in 225/40/18 and they've been great in treadwear and non-ideal weather conditions. I dont know about ride noise b/c I usually listen to music. Handling on the dry is obviously not comparable with summer performance tires, but these have been predictable in handling to say the least. My only complaint on dry roads is they dont bite as quickly as my Falken 451 performance tires did. Comfort? I guess it's fine..this has more to do with your suspension though.
Overall, I recommend these for good treadwear and all-season performance. Priced for a great value imo. America's Tires first recommended these to me last winter.

Default i think he is looking for performance tires though not all-seasons.....

in that case toyo proxes t1-r's would do the trick and come in cheaper then the 2 tires compared as well

Default Since he is looking for good treadwear the proxy 4 will give him the peformance and wear rating

I really don't think getting the highest performace wheel is necessary. It is an A4 not and S4
