Default Not being able to balance is what I have found over and over when....

searched for Falken tires.
All looking at 235/45/17 as they will go over a stock sport wheel. Not much snow here, therefore I am not overly concerned over the footprint of the tire as I don't drive much to begin with. This is all precaution as Sport Maxx will not drive in snow at all. Tried sp 9090 that were stock, man that was a scary proposition.

Default Thanks. A lot of guys are running it here. Just not sure how many as a

winter tire in climates like one in KC. (little snow, mostly plain cold)

Default yeah of course...I am in NY not much snow last year but my falkens

did there job in the snow and that is rear wheel drive. As i said 20k miles and still running strong never a problem with bubbling or wear at all. I had Conti extremecontacts on stock sport 17's they are also good.

What about a 225/50-17? 2% taller is a good idea in winter and Kumhos are $87 in that size.

Default mine are v rated. Very good in the dry and in the rain.

I have driven then hard in the mtns on dry roads and they handle very well. Excellent snow and ice traction. Overall a very good winter tire. I needed a tire for commuting to work on the dry roads and to get to then mtns when the passes are closed due to snow. Where my wife and i ski we had 450"+ snow last year and i never had any problem with the car. We passed many SUV's and other vehicles that were having trouble getting up the passes. More than once the police let us up the closed pass since we have 4wd (AWD-quattro), snowtires and local drivers licences.

Yet i was still able to drive hard on the on/off ramps. I classify this tire as a winter tire, not a hardcore snow tire like the Nokian RSI. I bought the 235-45-17 XL so it as a stiffer sidewall.

Default I'm in a similar winter situation as you. I ended up purchasing....

Yokohama Avid H4S All Seasons last year only because they were on special vs. the Conti Extremes (which I was going to buy). Either tire had very good ratings in the light snow, and I can say that the Yokohamas, during their first winter, were VERY quiet, comfortable, and so far still look new after 5000 miles. My tire size is 235/45-17 (stock) on the OEM sport wheels.

I bought them at Discount Tire, who matched the Tirerack price + shipping.
