Default Is this tire size too wide...245/40/18?

I want to get 18"s and the tech is telling me to go with this size on a 8.5" wide rim. I am a little afraid that the tire may be too wide, even though it is only 10mm. These tires are only 0.4" taller than the stock 235/45/17s. I need your opinions please. Also, I have been informed by many people that 19"s are too big, heavey, rides like crap and increases my chances of blowing my tires w/ 235/35/19s. I know there are lighter wheels like SSR and Volk Racing but I am worried about the ride and blowing out tires.

Default Im running 18x8.5 et 30 with 235/40 tire no problems yet

I know someone who is riding 19x8 et 30 245/(forgot height) tire on their A4 no problems.

Also depends on your rims offset...

Default stick with 235/40/18

245's may or may not rub depending on the brand of tire and your wheel offset so play it safe.

Forged 19s are not heavy so if you want to maintain some semblance of performance and you have the $$$ then def go forged.

Cast wheels are heavy pigs and will slow you down. Trust me, I know.

Default I am running 245/40/18 but on an 18x9 wheel......

if you are running a 18x8.5 wheel, stick with the 235/40/18 becuase unless you have the right offset for the 245/40/18s, you will rub.

Default I forgot to mention that the wheels offset is at 35...

and I thought the 235/40/18 I guess this size is better since it is only 0.1" taller than stock. Also, the rim size I'm interested in is 18" with 8.5" width. My car has the 235/45/17s with the sport package. So, will the 235/40/18s fit fine with no rubbing on the rim size I indicated? Thanks for the help.
