I wanted. Indeed even my local tire shop is getting really picky about the "right tire" matching the car. The car manufacturers and tire companies have tighten the rules a lot in the last few years. If the tire you want does not match the car manufacture's required load rating, they won't sell it to you, period.
So all my efforts of trying to get a 235/40 are down the drain. I had to purchase the OEM sized tires, the 235/45s. I did save a few bucks doing so. I also found out that these PS2s are also lighter than the S03s. The 235/45 from Michelin weighs only 22 lbs where as the same size tire in the S03 weighs 27 lbs, a 5 lbs saving, not too bad.

This way I saved a couple of $$$ and i will have a better ride from the 45 series. I will also be on the safe side of things.
I just went through the same problem with my local tire shop where I buy my tires. This time it was for the winter tires. The guy was **** about me buying 205/55/16, saying it was not the proper tire (load rating) for the A4. He said that the correct tire was the 215/55/16 and that he would not sell it to me. But I had a trick up my sleeve. I showed hum the sticker in the door saying the 205 was indeed a proper tire for winter use by Audi. He finally shut up after seeing it with his own eyes. The ironny of this story is that I choose the Dunlop M3s and they are not available in a 205 size and i had to settle on the 215s. Just my luck lately.

Pressure inflation rate of 51 psi. The other norm they are very sticky at is wheel width vs tire width. If a tire does not fit within the tire manufacturer's recommendation, they won't sell it to you.

94 LR = 1477lbs per tire.
90 LR = 1323lbs per tire.
I would also imagine that the lower load rating would decrease handling (turn in) somewhat .
