Default tire wear, recommendations

My wife's 2003 A4 Avant (3.0, non-sport) is almost through its P6's at 36k miles.

I'm not crazy about the tires, and looking for a reasonable all-season stock-size tire. Any thoughts?

Also -- the P6's are wearing on the outer shoulders (they've been rotated, but never re-mounted, so the outside edge has always been the outside edge). Car tracks well, and steers well. Is this wear pattern and tires life (of about 40k) normal?

thanks

Default couple things.

Do you need snow traction? If not the Pirelli Nero M&S is good. But if so the Avon M550 A/S would be a nice option. THe Khumo ASX is another good option with light snow use.

Default Re: couple things.

thanks.

In DC metro area -- so light snow use.

I think the P zero's will be too aggressive on turn-in for her (I shopped them for my RX-8).

I just got Pirelli P Zero Nero M+S. They are very good.

Kuhmos look good at tire rack, and cheap.

40k on a set of tires is pretty normal, right?

Default for the P6, 35-40k is pretty good. The Khumo ASX should be about the same.

Just make sure you rotate them every 5k or so (oil change intervals), that way the wear is pretty even. When you get the new tires, it might be a good idea to get an alignment.

Pirellis are known to wear down fast.

Default Sounds like she drives the **** out of the car ;)

FUZION tires from bridgestone/firestone.

cheap, effective summer tires. had them on my 330ci bmw e46 and the audi. both work great. i think the audi was $99 per tire and i got them to throw in balance/mounting and new stubs(?the air goes into?) plus tax and waste fee. not bad for these well sized 17 stock tires.
