Default Torque Converter-Check engine light

I have a check engine light on and the dealer is saying that the torque converter is setting this light off. I cant smog the car until its fixed. This is totally bogus. Torque converters do not fail! How do I fix this or better yet give the check engine a "false-positive". The car pulls great and still hauls buns.

Is it a dirty sensor?
New xmission fluids?

thanks,
Milton

I would push to ask for a print out of the codes and then use the link below to validate what they are saying. obtw, I am not aware of a code that says "torque converter bad"; maybe someone else does. If they are not wiling to do that, find someone else. It is extremely suspicious that you have no symptoms and they say the code is the torque converter.

It is probably a TC clutch code like this one

17125 - Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Performance or Stuck Off.
P0741 - 003 - Mechanical Failure - Intermittent

These can be an electrical problem, a bad solenoid in the trans or a bad TC.

I also think it sucks that a CEL with a non emissions code will not pass emmisions testing. I had to get the speedometer gear fixed in a VW Beetle because it caused the check engine light to come on.

Default torque converter

torque converters due fail in these cars and most newer cars, they hardly ever failed in you granfather's oldsmobile but they do now
reason why is they have to do a lot more than regulating torque thru centrifugal force like before.
one internal o-ring fails and allows internal pressure leakage that is hard to notice at first but will reduce greatly the life of the transmission, clear the fault once and if it comes back do an output test to verify is the tq.
you always go further asking for help or explanation of things rather than "push" your way on something, remember at the end of the day you the one with a broken car not the mechanic.
torque converter, transmission, and speed related faults are emission related faults and have always been since cars use computers to run and use this info to fine tune engines.
hope this helps and hopefully we can get more information to try to help
