I've heard a lot of good about them and would have gotten them if not for the fact that TireRack (where I was getting my rims from) doesn't carry them.

We have both on Milanos that have been to the track as well as normal use.
The Toyo is a better tire for when you push hard. If you just noodle around but want to feel sporty, the SO3 is better.
Noise levels about the same with tread hum being more noticable in the Toyo, but tire inpact noise greater in the SO3 ( they patter a lot ). Wet handling very similar on the skidpad. The SO3 seems to have a stiffer sidewall that sends back a lot of info even at low speeds. The Toyo doesn't bother you with a lot of information until you start cranking on it. It then has a higher limit and is more communicative than the SO3 - especially when approaching the limit. No matter how hard the Toyos were used at Thunderhill and Streets of Willow, they never faded or got greasy. The SO3 clearly communicated when it was losing grip do to overheating - which occured at a lower level than the Toyo.
Around town, the SO3 will inspire more confidence since they are always chattering at you. In more extreme situations the Toyos clearly dust the SO3. ( there's a reason they use Toyo in the Speedvision cup ) You must choose which one best describes what you will use them for.

If we're talking about tire weight, doesn't it make even more difference because it is physically the furthest away from the rotational center of the wheel?
My only concern about lighter tires is: are they also less strong and can fail easier? I mean, WHY are they ligher? Is it because of different materials used, or FEWER materials used (less rubber, fewer steel belts, reinforcements, etc.)?

Toyo has been trying to get in the game for a while. I've had 2 sets of snows and they've been great. The tires list at $550.00 or some obscure price that somebody pulled from a hat, that price of $305.00 took 30 seconds.
