Gear 300 75W90, how does it compare to OEM?

Mobil 1 75w-90 is worth a try.Royal Purple is excellent, but RedLine MT-90/MTL mix is the way to go.

Should I even be doing this? I have 27K miles, but when cold its hard to shift

Default Common problem, just be easy till the tranny warms up.

I noticed a difference in my cold performance switching, but my OEM fluid had 73k on it and it was .5 liter low.

Redline will be worse when cold. I'd use OEM or gear 300 for that.

When MT-90 is blended down w/ MTL, it's excellent in cold.

Default I dumped my oem at 7.5k. Good method in cold is to back-up into parking spot & leave it in 2nd.

Depending on circumstances, maybe you can back into your spot and leave it in 2nd. When I do that, I can start, idle (1sec/degree f below freezing) and drive off without moving the shifter, I can go almost 2 mi w/o shifting if it's extreme. Then reg shifing is way better. Some dudes need to find reverse when below zero but all they had to do was back-in.
