Transmission Error Code Please Help!
I'm considering the purchase of a 2002 A4 3.0 with the CVT transmission and 107k miles. The car is showing fault code P0722 Speed Sensor Circuit No Signal. The car runs very nice, no slip in the tranny at all. I have a few questions: Is it fair to assume "No signal" indicates either a bad sensor or bad wiring and not a transmission problem? What is the chance this is the first indication of a catastrophic transmission failure? What is the price of a new transmission.
I have the car subject to my mechanics inspection, I need to make a decision in the next day or so. Any help would be much appreciated.

My 2 cents on your tranny questions:
1) CVTs do have a bad reputation for mechanically failing generally prior to your mileage. By mechanically, I mean internal to the transmission and my understnading is it is usually the "chain". Take a look at the link below for some good info on the subject. Whether this is an internet bad rap or not is still TBD in my brain.
2) Sensor failure would not be an indication of the tranny mechanically failing...unless it is driven for a while with a sensor failed, then it could damage the tranny.
3) In the thousand's. A quick search yielded a good website on the CVT.

My 2 cents on buying: find out the vehicle history. Timing belt changes, oil changes, general servicing etc before deciding.
