really respond to little ruts and dimples in the road. I would expect that the car's heavy enough that wind shouldn't really affect it much, but I've noticed it even from SUVs passing in the oncoming traffic. Sometimes it's smooth as silk, but other times not so...

I find the sport suspension to be excellent at speed. I've cruised 100+ with no adverse effects. handling felt great and sure footed.
I have not noticed any disruption when I'm getting passed, but maybe I just need to get passed more! hehe

I'm really wondering, the more I think about it, if it might not just be a rutty stretch of highway. My driving route has not been at all varied, and I've only tried 100+ sprints on one particular stretch that I know to be straight with excellent visibility. I understand that ruts worn into the blacktop will really grab wide tires, and that's kind of what it feels like. Then again, sometimes it's fine. I'll have to pay more attention and maybe go on a road trip!

There's some curves I've been slicing and dicing at 90+mph around here, so straight line cruising at 100+ should be cake. You sound like you're experiencing "truck rut."
The 235/45 tires we have are probably about what came on the super cars about 10 years ago. And, yes, they are pretty wide.
I've felt some slight tramlining on straight freeway, but not often.

since any slight change in direction is magnified at speed. Kind of like flying a private plane in turbulence--in equal conditions, 200 kts feels a lot different than 100kts

I've had mine up to around 110 on a few occasions, sport pkg handles like a champ. Almost too well, sometimes I don't realize how fast I've gotten up to and have to cool it down a little. Mich. Pilots here.
BUT I was driving across the desert one evening with about a gusty 45 mph cross wind, and at speeds above 85-90 mph I would definitely get pushed around a lot more than I was happy about. More so than in other cars I think, but then again I wasn't trying to hit 85 in those too often. I was also a little tired, had been behind the wheel for about 3-4 hours, so that might have had something to do with it too.
Weird how what seems so effortless (driving in a straight line on a freeway) can become a major challenge after doing it for a long stretch.
