Default Triple A sucks!

I just got a phone call from my GF who is on the Massachusetts Turnpike driving her son to the airport in Boston when her car broke down.

It seems that the serpentine belt came off her Pontiac Gran Prix, due to a bent arm that holds the tensioner pulley. Not to worry, she thought, I have AAA.

When she called them, they told her that if she wanted the car towed, she would have to pay "up front." Don't ask me why; my GF has the premium plan that allows you to get towed 100 miles.

Well, she has very little money on her, so she is trying to reach somebody else at AAA to see if they're more cooperative. Meanwhile, her son's plane takes off in a half an hour and the airline ticket is non-refundable.

We just had my wifes car towed 94 miles with AAA. Didn't pay a dime up front. No questions asked.

Default Wait. Time out. First off if your GF broke down on the MA Pike AAA can't tow her from there. The

MA Pike Authority won't let our trucks, noticed I said our trucks (I work for the Southern New England club) on the Pike for tows. The MA Pike forces the member to have another tow service, who has exclusive rights to the Pike to tow all vehicles off the Pike. When the vehicle gets towed to a location off of Pike then AAA can take the car where ever it needs to be taken.

Regarding the pay upfront statement, a couple of thoughts. 1) Where did she break down on the Pike. There is a section between exit 8 and exit 4 or 5 that another club handles (AAA Pioneer Valley). 2) It could have been a contractor and not one of our fleet vehicles. Sometimes the contractors ask for money upfront, they shouldn't. 3) Has your GF used her 5 alotted service calls this year? If so, then they can ask for cash upfront.

In any event, let me know how things work out. I don't like seeing my company's name followed by four letter words. If you have an issue be sure to call Member Relations on Monday and talk to them about the "service" you received.

What is the deal with the exclusive rights to tow from the Pike?
