Just got word that I am an offical canidate for the Naval Academy Class of 2008. All I need is my PT and some other paper work. Unlike other candidates I do not need a Congress Nomination due to the fact that my dad died in action and therefore I opt out of it. Anybody have any experience with the Academy? I have looked to going there because it opens up the doors of life before and after the military. This is an opportunity that I cannot pass up because I will regret it for the rest of my life. So what I am asking is that has anybody here gone to Naval Academy? And what should I expect? In the end it doesnt matter because I am going to do anything to get it done though.

Congratulations. I'm not an academy grad but I'm a former Naval officer. I've served with many academy grads and they had nothing but high praise about their academy experience. You will remember and cherish it the rest of your life. Good Luck!

I have a couple of friends who went to Annapolis and they enjoyed their experience tremendously. Those I know who went to West Point were jealous of Navy because Annapolis (as a town) has a lot more going on then West Point.
I was accepted at West Point out of high school but chose to go to Colorado for athletic reasons. The whole collegiate experience was great, I had a blast at Boulder, it is after all the #1 party school!
If you are concerned about the service academy lifestyle another option would be to do ROTC while in college or OCS after graduation. My twin sister did Army ROTC, had a great collegiate experience and is a very effective intelligence officer now living in Germany.
The best part is that you will have a secure job guaranteed after graduation (which is not the case for the majority of college graduates); you will have tremendous benefits, a lot of vacation and travel. Hell if you decide to stay in the whole 20 years you can retire at 42 with a full pension.
Congrats man it is quite an accomplishment.
