Unusual AC fan operation

Has anyone had an experience like this:
Rather hot day, AC in auto set in the low 70s, car cooled off and fan on 2-3 bars. For no apparent reason, fan stops, all indicator bars go out, auto stays lit. About 5 seconds later the fan starts spinning up to full speed (bars start lighting up as well) and eventually spins back down to the 2-3 bar range.
This has happened three times in the last month or so and only when it was quite warm (110-115). I am scheduled for a service visit on Wed so I will mention it then but just wondered if anyone else had experienced this. I doubt that the climate control captures fault codes - right?
Thanks

but I would have the dealership diagnose it.
My guess would be a bad outside air temp sensor. The climate control head could have an issue or you could just simply have a wiring issue.
Typically if the fan acts like how you described it, then it could mean the climate control thinks the outside temp is going from extreme HOT to COLD.
The climate control will capture fault codes so if they scan the CC then it should spit out faults. If the outside air temp sensor is going on the fritz it is possible it won't set any faults.

The problem with telling the dealer is... pretty much if you/they can't duplicate they won't fix it.
If I can't duplicate it, I usually don't tell me dealer. I'll end up getting in an arguement when they tell me they can't duplicate so I just save my breath.
