Update on my problem
dropped the car off at the dealer and the hesitating/jerking with the check engine light sometimes flashing and sometimes solid turned out to be an injector that is misfiring. Now they say they have to figure out why it is misfiring...my guess is that it's electrical.
it's a 3.0 V6 6-Speed with only 500 miles on it

Check wires going into and out of coil packs. Can be minute, but leakage is enough to cause problems
Coil packs themselves can be bad, but most often with prolonged exposure to vibration.
