Default Update on wifey's A4 w/ flashing CEL.

Pretty sure I narrowed dowe why. HA. The coil in cylinder 2 was snapped completely off in the middle.

Swapped in 4 new ones, kept 3 that I know are okay as future backup.

CEL is still on but I assume that will go away in a few days. Car is in limp right now though. Told the wife she can't pull out in front of any semis on the highway for awhile.

Anyone in the Gaithersburg, MD area want to earn a cold beer by clearing the A4's CEL for me?

Thanks.

Pics of issues on coils and our stable of cars.

Is the CEL still flashing? If so, I would not drive the car any further...

Default Why do you think the A4 is in limp mode?..

Unless there is other serious problems like over boosting, the ECU should not be in limp mode even with the CEL still ON. But you are correct, the CEL will go away after a few driving/start up cycles without the ignition faults. After the engine has warmed up, drive the car like you stole it (within reason,) for a little while, the ECU will re adapt accordingly.

Default No its not still flashing

All is good.

I dont think its boosting to its full potential. The car has a stored multiple misfire code I'm sure. Thats why I think its in limp.

Default My TT went into limp from a bad MAF that threw the CEL.

Kept it in limp until I drove a cycle with a functioning MAF.

Default On my car you can clear the CEL by disconnecting hte battery for 15mins..

is this possible with the A4?

The codes will still be stored but there will not be an active CEL.

Default I've had something similar the first time I replaced a coilpack...

After the replacement, the CEL was still on (not flashing), the car seemed fine, but the power just wasn't there.

The CEL went away after 1-2 days and power came that instant.

Default Yeah, that is because the MAF is key information needed to calculate the torque...

the drive by wire engine management is torque based, so any loss of relevant primary information would result in limp mode. But that should not occur in the scenario of the failure mode that was the case, now corrected, with the A4 ignition faults.
