How many times have your rotors been turned for other brake jobs? Are your rotors warped?
No need to change rotors if they have plenty of meat after turning / resurfacing, Unfortunately, I'm just banging out this response and do not know the minimum acceptable rotor thickness.

rotors were checked every 10, replaced every 20, pretty much without fail.
then again, the cars that were coming through were all driven in pretty urban environments, so that will accelerate wear on brake components

:-P
I still stand by my earlier thread, though: rotors do NOT need to be replaced every 20k miles, even under city driving. Or, the OEM doesn't know how to specify rotors for their cars.

but its not a bad idea to do so. if nothing else, it reduces the risk that the average audi owner would wear their rotors out, causing brake failure, which serves two purposes. First, it makes the car safer (more for high mileage cars than warranty work, but still..) and second, it makes the owner feel more confident in the safety of his/her car, which helps boost consumer satisfaction with the car and also the service. And honestly, if you sway just one person to buy another Audi because of replacing their rotors, it probably pays for all the rotors replaced that month.
and one other note, I don't know if you're aware of this, but Audi receives and analyzes all parts removed as part of warranty work, so it'd be pretty hard for a dealership to scam them out of that much money replacing rotors more often than appropriate.

But it's also a matter of resources. We get all of our parts back, but we don't look at all of them, we don't have the resources, and I'd bet neither does Audi. The parts that get looked at are those that have a cost per unit higher than expected or budgeted.
