I've got a 02 A4 1.8 and the engine sounds like the timings off but no loss of power. bought the car recently and its always sounded this way so i picked up a vag-com. What is the prognosis? and what do i do from here?

Clear and see what comes back. All of those are intermittent so if they have never been cleared, the error may have happened years ago.

One a separate subject, what noise is it making and where is it from?
