Default Valve Cover Gasket

I recently took my 2002 A4 1.8T quattro in to get my coil recall and they informed me that there was a major oil leak at valve cover gaskets. They said it looked like someone drilled into the valve cover/gasket? They told me that it would be $597 to fix and that it would take about 5 hours to do. I thought this seemed a little steep. What do you guys think I should do?

Not if they are replacing the valve cover itself as well. However, I would ask to see the "hole that was drilled" before I authorized them to replace the cover itself.

Also, if they're replacing the VCG, make sure they replace the cam chain tensioner gasket that is a common site for leakage on the back of the valve cover. I can't imagine it taking five hours though, it should only take an hour or two tops...unless they're counting the time for your engine to cool so they can work on it.
