Hey Everyone -
My 02 A4 3.0 Quattro has been having a chronic vibration when making uturns or making tight turns (parking lots). This was a problem since the first week I bought the car. Found that it was coupled with vibrations on the freeway as well.
about 6 months ago I replaced the entire front end control arms and the axels which helped alot and havent seen the vibration when driving on the freeway. However that dang vibration is still there when I make uturns or make tight turns.
Audi says its the steering rack and not the bearings. The car now has 101,000 miles on it. Any idea if it would be smart to overhaul the entire steering rack or just look at parts of the steering system?

If it is just happening at slow speeds when turning sharply, is it worth trying to fix it? Maybe I am different, but I tolerate a lot with my cars. This I would tolerate until it shows up at higher speeds.
My 2 cents.

+1 since I have the same sharp turning sound/vibration when I'm in the parking lots. I have no problem at any speeds now (and I've had a bearing replaced). Let it be since it could just be at the extreme of steering unit

I've always had the same vibration when turning very sharply, but I've just attributed it to the fact that our cars are AWD. I used to own a Jeep, and whenever I put it into 4WD and cranked the steering wheel, it would start to buck and vibrate also. I think it's just the fact that you have 4 wheels that are all being driven and 2 want to go one way, while the other two want to go a different direction. That's why it's more pronounced the sharper you turn. Just my guess...
