This is too funny- you're upset because YOU parked illegally? What would have been your reaction if something happened to your car while in the lot(hit&run, vandalism)? The owners would have zero liability because it is private property and you did not have permission.
Sorry chief- but your best bet is to pay it and learn the lesson. Any type of retribution will only get you in further trouble. Trust me when I say "let it be".
I live in a small condo building and almost daily someone pulls into our 10 space lot and walks down to the bar across the street. Sometimes I am outside, and will be very polite- "excuse me this is a private lot" and then point to the large sign posted at the entrance. Do the people apologize and move the car? NO. Typically its- "oh I'll just be a few minutes" or they get upset with me, cursing at me,etc.
So finally, we've had it and called a tow company- they charge 85 bucks and we get 20 back when the owner picks up his car. So now what used to be a problem, is now extra revenue for the condo association!
Be glad youre not in the UK where lot owners pay kids to hide in the bushes with boots and will lock you up as soon as you leave your car and typically charge close to 100 bucks. And its private property so the police cant do anything.
