VW 1.8T vs. Audi 1.8T Do we have a VW engine or does VW have an Audi engine?

Are they made from the same parts etc? Built in the same plant?

All the 1.8T engines are made in Hungary.

I thought A4 1.8Ts were debut b4 the 1.8T engines were put on VW cars???

The 1.8T was first in the A4 in '97, then the Passat in '98. YES, made from the same parts.

Don't forget Skoda and SEAT...all use 1.8T; It all started sometime around 1994.

Yup, same parts... mounted transverse in TT and all VWs (except Passat). Transverse requires (more)

Haldex quattro due to space limitations that would make Torsen really cost-ineffective.

Passat gets Torsen because it's on a larger platform and the engine is mounted the same as the Audi A4.

Of course, to make things more confusing... the platform designator for the VW's is called A4 (Golf/Jetta, etc...)
