The standard 6 disc changer is built in to the head unit in the 2002 A4, so if you use an aftermarket head unit, you will lose the changer.
A few people here have been doing audio system upgrades without replacing the head unit yet, as I don't think there are any mass-produced DIN-adapters for the head unit compartment - they've been custom made, I believe.

A lot of people like the pretty JVC's, Pioneer's, etc. Why do the manufacturers make them "pretty to look at?" Because they sell. Their sound sucks but they look good. I don't buy a radio to look at it, I buy it for the sound. I have a Nakamichi. It's nothing pretty but it kicks butt in sound quality (.002% distortion at 92 decibles, that is awesome!). I can turn the volume up all the way & zero distortion. Go with Nakamichi or Eclipse I've had both & loved each one.
