Default Washing car in cold weather...

What do people in cold climates do to take care of their paint during the winter? I live in northern VT and my car gets covered in salt everyday, and it's not easy to wash when it's always at least 10 degrees below freezing.

Is it a bad idea to use the car wash, I've heard that small particles of dirt etc in commercial wash places damage the finish.

My old A4 had a ****ty paint job to begin with so I didn't really worry about it, but I want to take care of the Amulet finish.

Default there are many answers to your question, grasshopper

If you have a good durable top coat finish on the car, and are ready to give it a GOOD detail in the Spring then IMHO, a car wash (a good one ) or 2, won't kill you; Porter-Cable conquers all. with that being said, I will be flamed. You can wait for a semi warm day (>30), use a 50-50 bucket (warm sink/hose), use A LOT of a good car wash (MeGuirs gold), and rinse really well, with the nozzle off. Then, California Water Blade.
Then, watch you don't fall and break your a$$ on the ice now in your driveway.

Default well...

I would NEVER use a regular car wash, too dangerous for scratches...

I would only use a touchless as a last resort...

When at ALL POSSIBLE I try to wash it by hand, (as long as it's above 32 degrees), I use warm water during the winter

Default thanks...product suggestions?

I just got the car a few weeks ago and it had a good detail from the dealer.

I looked at MB the Body's list of detailing products and for now I need to go a more economical route.

What is a good set of products to get me started? I'm guessing that Auto Zone or similar stores won't carry the products, so where's a good place to order them online?

TIA

Default do you know anyone with a garage?

wash and quick dry outside, then in the garage for a good dry. let the car sit inside for a few hours. if you have compressed air, blow all the nooks and seams dry..

Default here, but there are many

MeGuirs is reasonable and decent. p21S, is great stuff. Blitz is a very good, inexpensive carnauba. Good luck!

http://www.properautocare.com/</a

Default From the great white north. Take a bucket of water (with a dab of car wash soap) and a sheep skin

mitt to your local bucket friendly hand wand car wash. Use the rinse setting to wet down the car and to get rid of the worst of the salt. Hand wash & rinse. I use a California Water Blade and towel to dry.

Those industrial grade food containers with the snap on lids are good.
