The switches in the A4 are made of a transluscent plastic coated in black, this allows them to have sections which arent black and which light up at night.

Now ive noticed that tehre were some switches... especially the ones the car came with where they have a rather sharp cut off where you push your fingers down.. I always thought this was a design that could lead to premature wear... and when it was bought.. there were some tiny white marks where the black laquer had clearly worn off anyway.

On these switches, the laquer then began to wear off more from these points and became bigger and bigger spots.

The replacement switches actually seem to be ever so slightly more rounded, perhaps they changed this design on finding it dreamatically reduces wear.
