Well, got a speeding citation tonight. Cop: "Nice interior. Looks different."
Guy was very nice and didn't give me a ticket/points, just a citation w/ $80 fine.
This was at night, so I guess he saw all the little red console lights.

Not quite...
A ticket officially recognizes you were speeding. It will give you points depending on how fast you were going, and usually incurs a higher fine amount. Speeding will usually have the "Maximum Speed Limits" box checked.
A citation is a "lesser" charge, and is usually marked/check-boxed as a different item, such as mine was marked as "Other: Obedience to traffic control devices".. basically a semi-BS charge to get you out of insurance points, but still get a fine. With a citation, you won't get insurance points, and the fine is a little less.
I mean, if the cops are nice, they'll realize 1) you're still paying the fine with a citation, 2) you'll still get the message, "SLOW DOWN!", and 3) it's just a nice thing to do. Why give someone points and be mean, when they're still gonna pay a fine (maybe 30 less) with a citation. So unless you're just a complete jerk or rude to others while driving or the cop themself, some times you'll just get a citation instead.
