Went back to the dragstrip again, with a properly working 104 program...
If you remember, last time I ran at the drag strip there was little or no improvement by running 104 octane gas verses running 93 octane gas... We wanted to figure out what was going on, because most of our Stage III/III+ customers see a big gain on 104.
We had logged the car at the strip and later discovered two things that were holding me back when we compared the strip logs to the logs we made when threw together the "quick and dirty" 104 program.
First, it was obvious that I did not have a good enough mix of 104 in the tank, as I was pulling a lot of timing. I did drain the tank completely via the fuel pump, but there is always gas in the tank that the pump cannot pickup. I only added about 2.5 gallons of 104, and this must not have been enough to change the octane level sufficently.
Second, we found an issue where I was hitting a load manager limit in the ECU. Essentially, this was keeping me from making all the power I could have been.
With all of this fixed, and another few rounds of tuning, I took the car back to the track. Here is what I ran:

The track had only prepped one lane for the night... On this pass, I ran in the unprepped lane. I did not know this until after I made the run, and the guy handing out timeslips told me to run in the right lane. I staged for the right lane the next time I went and I got a much better 60', but my clutch just wasn't up to the task of holding all this power in the lane that had traction... Here is my timeslip with a slipping clutch in every gear:

We consider this 104 program to be very safe, and hope to make it available to everyone who is willing to take a chance with the stock bottom end powerwise. I don't know what to do about a clutch now, as I am happy with my current one (very drivable), but it just can't hold the 104 power. I also need to either loose some weight or find someone half my size to run my car...
On a sidenote, one of our guys ran our B7 A4 2.0T for fun... 93 octane, 19" wheels, spare tire in the trunk, 3/4 tank of gas, and he ran a 14.309 @ 97.12 with just a chip and exhaust!!

If you could have the 2.0T guy send me his it would be much needed. Great run Tom. cheers! Mike

Last?? Forever, I hope.... or at least until I decide to build it.
The compression and leakdown are spot on and it doesn't burn any oil. I have 62K HARD miles on the car and about 40K miles with the kit. We have customers with literally MILLIONS of miles on our Stage III kits without problems.
I know I am over the safe limits of the bottom end on 104, and that is why our 104 tune is fairly conservative... There is room in the programming for more boost and timing, but at what cost??? It is not in my (or APR's) best interest to blow the engine.
Someone on here said before that APR only makes programs available to certian people... In some cases, that is somewhat true. A customer HAS to understand that using 104 program with this kit IS pushing the limits. The 104 program will probably be available shortly for any customer who clearly knows and understands the consequences...
Hopefully I can soon get into the bottom end of the engine, so I won't have these worries anymore...

Nice runs Tom, glad to see you got the 104 program running better.
I think the plan is to take charlies car up to SAC for a few runs during a saturday. Damn, must be nice to run at 12:30am. Wish we could do that here on the west coast.
