I would guess it would depend on what state you live in. In CA, you have to have a CA plate on front and back.

I hate it that they want me to destroy my car by drilling holes in my front bumper. We shall see how long it takes for them to pull me over.

I'm driving for a little over 1 year in CA without the front plates. So far no prob.

If you get in an accident, I can see them using that no. plate to make some sort of issue.
