Default My understanding is this:

VW's call all of their AWD systems "4Motion" but actually use different systems. The Toureg (I'm pretty sure) uses a Haldex center differential, which is in turn controlled by a computer. The Toureg also has (similar to Audi's) computer locakable front and rear diffs. The Torsen® diff (to my knowledge) is exclusively used on Audi, and possibly Lambo's (though, I've yet to confirm that).

Does one system have a cost advantage over the other (that you know of)?

Well said. It was too late for me to explain any further.

The Torsen system is much, much more expensive. That's why Audi is one of the few that use it.

Default I'm not sure about the Haldex® system,

I'd imagine it's not cheap because it too is a rather sophisticated system. Torsen® is decidedly an expensive system, but worth it IMO. SYstems that utilize VC's are looking to be able to say that they are AWD systems (which, technically they are, although not nearly as prominent or potent as a Torsen® system) without having to charge a lot of money. VC's are generally cheaper.

Yeah, that's why I said one of few. Really only Audi, racing teams, & high-end offroaders use it

Default yeah, I was agreeing with you (sorry if it didn't come off like that)

I think it puts Quattro cars in an elite group. I love the fact that few use it.
