What do you guys expect from something that explodes 3,200 to 26,000 times a minute? (more ranting)

Those donuts blow if you aren't careful with the clutch and/or launching. When one explodes at 5500rpm, it sounds like the driveshaft itself has taken a dump and is pounding the tunnel. Then you get this clattery clanking noise as the bolts that held the donut to the shaft, rattle. If you're a block or two from home, you limp back. Otherwise it's quality time with your tow company;-) Of course regular replacement and proper driving means that is rare. I've only had one go once.
It's very hard to get them balanced just right. A true Alfista spends long periods under their car with a bunch of hose clamps, moving them around on each shaft to try and get the smoothest spin. This in addition to getting it balanced at a driveline shop to start.
Who ever thought to spin a driveshaft at engine rpms all of the time anyway ? Darned Italians;-)

Drive an A4 1.8T for a while and then comment....If you can accept it good for you...that the previous 1.8 (before 2002), had a good reputation, and according to drivers no aberrant ressonance.
