Default The runners up...

We considered
WRX - too small
Jag X-Type - no wagon body
325xi wagaon - my wife would kill me
if I bought a BMW
Subaru Outback - close second but it lacks tunability (i.e. chip-ability), sportiness and, oh yeah... my Mum has one.

Default It boiled down to three for me...

1. Lexus IS 300 - didn't buy it because it didn't have as much oomph as the A4 3.0

2. BMW 330i - too much money for what it offers

3. Audi A4 3.0 - bought it because it has more value IMHO, and the Quattro!

Default G35 Coupe, 325i, IS300,new Accord Coupe , GMC Envoy, Passat (more)

-G35 Coupe = scarce on the lot, dealer charging over sticker. Can't fit my bike inside. (The sedan's rear is butt-ugly.)
-325i = can't get a salesguy to take me seriously or show me the car. Can't find one that isn't fully loaded to make it affordable.
-IS300 = too boy-racer. Old design. Dealer treated me like I didn't know a car consisted of 4 wheels and a steering wheel.
-new Accord Coupe = Honda is so stingy with interior and exterior colors. You get it one way or no way. Dear Honda, It's called "personalization"... look into it. Also, everyone in my neighborhood has riced out theirs.. don't want to be thrown into that crowd.
-GMC Envoy = loved my previous GMC, but quality of interior and reliablity will keep me away from GM.
-Passat = low on features compared to A4. Also, already have one. Wouldn't be any different than what I have now.

Default we were considering

Golf 1.6's, V5's, honda civics, thought about the 316 or 318, looked at the passat, then we walked into the Audi showroom and were thinking on an A3, then we sat in an A4, 5 months later I offered to put the extra cash from what it would have cost to buy a golf forward and we drove off the lot in a brand new A4.

I thought it was worth putting the cash from what I was gonna use to stay in a small room at university for a year eating snails (£5000) to having access to a nice car every so often, dealing with it all the time which is what I love... and of course there are some other reasons I wont go into here.
