What special tools are needed to replace the front wheel bearing on a 2004 1.8tqms?

Default I did it on my own (all four wheels at once and installed coilovers at the same time)...

and at some point I wondered why the hell I didn't bring it to the shop... it took me the whole weekend due to stripped bolt heads, broken bolts, seized components, etc...
It is a hard job!

Default From my experience on my B5...

remove the suspension hub assembly and take it to a shop to have the bearings pressed in and out. Cost me $100 for both sides supplying my own parts.


And it saved a huge amount of time and effort and money.

thats pricey, shops usually charge 20-25 per bearing press

Default hydraulic press can be more useful than just pressing bearings

I curled up in the fetal position on my garage floor and cursed the day when I said to myself: "hey, maybe I'll change my wheel bearings on my own, should be fun!"

I broke the one on the passenger side, that was a lot of fun getting it out...
