Some say the 3.0 needs 40 wt, some say 30 wt. Some say Synth, some say synth not needed.
I bought my 3.0 used and the records from the dealer show that it was serviced with Pennzoil Euro Synth but it doesn't show a weight. I'm going to continue to use Pennzoil Synth oil but I'm not sure of which weight to use. I live in the ATL, GA area and it doesn't stay below freezing for long around these parts. And my car is garaged.
Also, What intervals do you change at. I'm a little weiry of doing 10k mile oil changes but at $40 to $50 an oil change, it's starting to look appealing. What are you using/doing?

Manual states 0W-30 in 2004, 3.0. I use Amsoils series 2000 0w-30(synthetic). 10,000 mile intervals, never had to add oil inbetween changes. After warranty/free maintance expires, will change oil and filter at 15,000 miles intervals.

never got rid of a car with less than 150,000 miles on it, never had any major engine repairs, 15,000 miles or 1 year on a good quality synthetic in a v-6 or v-8 engine is not unreasonable. It is synthetic. You guys must really like tossing $. Pick a filter with syntheic fibers (mobile 1 makes one for us) and you are extemely safe. Get out from under the car and enjoy it. It's only a car!

that I am beyond warranty used Mobil 1 5w-40 5k miles ago but they switched to Elf 5w-40 for the last oil change two weeks ago.
Also, I've had my oil changed every 5K since the engine had 20K miles on it. Will continue to go every 5K for oil changes until hell freezes over. =)

I'm also probably gonna go with a 7.5K / 6 Month interval as per AudiJunkie's recommendations.
There's some good info here. Take a look around that tread and other AJ oil threads for more info.

Based on all the info that I've gathered, I'm going to go with 5W30 and 6k mile OCIs.
I never used synthetic in my 2.8 and I got 150k miles out of that car and it was still running strong with no CEL when it was totaled. However, I did have to clean the throttle body and plastic plumbing out on that car and it got pretty clogged with the suction pump and all.
It's just a theory but I think with synthetic, I won't have to worry about that as much. And the longer intervals will even out the cost.
