Funny you ask, I just wrote a Tech Article on it! To meet Audi or any Euro specs, it takes a thicker oil, a 40 weight with very few exceptions....German Syntec 0w-30 for one MaxLife Synth and GTX HM 5w-30. 90% of 30 weight ols are too thin for wear and consumption in V6. 1.8t can get away with quality 30 weight oil...but not if oil temps get high. For a garaged V6, no need for synth 5w-40, although its' a good choice....I don't like wasting money. Best bet is a 10w-40 HiMiles like MaxLife or GTX HM. MaxLife Synth 5w-30 carries Euro specs and is one of the rare thick 30s. Decide for yourself, one good aspect of 15w-40 is that it has extra cleaning additives for diesel engines and will not burn off...if that's an issue for you. In V6s I service, I use GTX HM 10w-40 in summer and the thick 5w-30 in winter. (it gets to -10f here) You can go 6000 miles on dino/HM or 8000 on synth.

https://www.audiworld.com/tech/eng96.shtml</a

You got the wrong guys on the phone. The specs required for Audis engines begin with and end with 40 weight oils. 5w-30 is NOT for Euro cars, period. Take a look at the VW 502 oil list, even though there are a few 30 weights, they are Euro formula 30s on the thick end of the 30 range. It takes a minimum of a 12-14cSt at +100c formula to make sufficient HT/HS rating (3.5cP) for the specs. I don't know who or what info you got, but you should call them back and ask wtf they are talking about and what exact 5w-30 meets Audi's specs, because there are NONE in the North America market. German Syntec 0w-30 meets VW052, MaxLife 5w-30 is "Recommended" for it because it is much thicker than regular 5w-30. (not "approved though") This BS is a problem and nobody should be answering these questions at the dealer unless they know wtf they are talking about. Normal 5w-30 equals excess wear and consumption.

If there is an amsoil synthetic fiber filter availble, i will wait the year, if OEM paper filter, i might change just that at 6 months. I have a 1993 lexus es 300, 160,000 miles on it, been doing this oil routine since new, Zero major engine issues...standard stuff, tune ups, valve cover gaskets, water pump, burns no oil, good MPG's. also have a 1999 Maxima with 120,000 miles on it..same deal. This stuff is synthetic...it does not break down. The obsession with the oil issue is unbelievable on this web site.

email them or look on their own website. Yes it borders on fraudulant, but I can assure you the series 2000 meets NONE of those specs listed on the bottle. It doesnt claim to either. It just says it is "recommended for" or "meets OR exceeds" those applications/standards. They are not approved by them though. Check out the MB LL approved oils list of the Audi approved oils list. They are on none of them...
AMSOIL API Licensing
This article was written by AMSOIL INC.and is re-printed here so you will have a full understanding of API ratings and why not all AMSOIL lubricants are API rated.
Q. Why aren't all AMSOIL motor oils API licensed?
A. Good question. Let us address API licensing in depth, as well as the
issue of warranties. Some AMSOIL motor oils are API licensed, some are not.
If you're concerned about your warranty and feel pressures to use an API
licensed oil, even after reading this answer, then the XL 5W-20 (XLM), 5W-
30 (XLF), 10W-30 (XLT) and 10W-40 (XLO) or our 15W-40 (PCO) API licensed oils should be your choice. If you are looking for an alternative to frequent oil changes or just want the best performing oil for your car, then one of our top tier non-API licensed synthetic oils are for you. Read on, and decide for yourself.
