I love me 3.0, but we all know thats a stupid Idea after all my car has been through.
For the past 3 months I've been debating as to which would be a better long term investment, B6 3.0 v B5 S4.
As many of you know, I drive about 20,000 miles a year, so reliability is a major concern for me. I dont need a car that will do 13 second quarter miles, but of coarse, something thats fun to take around the corners. My a4 is perfect, and I love it. The only problem is, Black 3.0 6spds are hard to find, but yet the b5 S4s are damn cheap now, and plenty around here in NJ. (Thats the other problem, New Jersey)

money).
i think the 3.0 is overall a better car than the b5 s4 (other than in straightline performance/tunability, but you didn't cite those as what you wanted), but I wouldn't rule the b5 out. suspension upgrade on the b5 is mandatory in my mind though.
really depends what you want. there's less to go wrong with the 3.0 though.
heck, i'd probably lean towards a stage 3 b5 1.8t, but that's just me. certainly wouldn't have all the luxory items of the other cars.

followed the b5 s4 forum with any regularity. maybe that's right, if they're just going with k03's, but it seems like you just use blown turbos as the excuse to upgrade.

at the very best the S4 is going draw a theft attempt in NJ, and the cost of repair is high even with insurance because it's likely to happen repeatedly.
The bodyshop of my previous dealer (Jack Daniels) was fixing several stolen S4s a month. One car there had been stolen half a dozen times and the insurance company was begging the owner to get rid of the car.
