Default Wheel Horsepower is obviously, at the wheels. Brake Horsepower is at the crank.

BHP is a unit that is frequently misused. There is a subtlety to it's measure I don't quite grasp as yet.

Default whp is measured at the wheels. brake horsepower is measured at the crank

it's higher than wheel horsepower because of drivetrain loss

bhp is meant to measure the hp a car is producing with all its equipment (a/c, water pump, steering pump, exhaust, etc)

prior to 1971, us manufacturers used SAE gross horsepower to measure hp, this is higher than bhp because the engine is only burdened with what it needs to run, water pump, etc.

info
