SQ stands for sound quality. It means attempting to reproduce music as accuratly as possible. SPL stands for sound pressure level, but is a term used for ground pounding systems that emphasize low or loud bass over accurate music reproduction.
Nowadays the lines aren't as divided as they use to be as many systems are more accuratly described as SQL. Which is a mix of the 2. First and foremost the system should reproduce the upper octaves faithfully while still being able to get loud and pound out the bass if need be.
