Default Wheel Question,...Carbor Fibre?

Just had a lightbulb go off in my head, and maybe wrongly so...but....
Carbon fibre is very light, and very stong, also very expensive...but....can they, do they or would they make wheels with a carbon fibre aspect?

Default The problem with CF is that...

it only has strength in one direction, depending on which way it's layed, depends on if it'll be stronger in the horizontal or vertical directions. The problem with wheels is that they take energy from all sides/directions. It would be very difficult to design a CF wheel that took into account all of these forces.

Default That might work,

but again, it would take a very intricate design to gain any advantage over an all-metal rim. And it might even turn out to be even more expensive.

Default not exactly.

the strength of a carbon fiber/resin material DOES depend on the orientation of the fibers, but most of the time, it's woven, so it'll be equally strong all the way around the plane of the mat. however if you were to try and BEND a sheet of it, it'll snap rather easily.

the bigger problem is that while strong and light, it's BRITTLE.

CF rims aren't a new idea, they just are highly impractical. it's too cheap to make lightweight metal rims, relatively speaking.
