when did tiptronic trannies switch from a 5-sp to a 6-sp?

Default when did tiptronic trannies switch from a 5-sp to a 6-sp?
my wife's A4 (03 1.8T) has a 6-sp tip and is at 3k rpm at 90mph. I'm quite jealous...

Wow 3k at 90mph. I'm jealous as well. I'm at like 4.2K at that speed.

my wife's is an 03 though, 9/02 build date. it is FWD however

Then it's CVT though, not Tiptronic... even 2002 CVT's were 6 gears

Yeah IIRC they call it multitronic, not tiptronic for the CVTs, but I could be wrong.

I'm pretty sure multitronic and CVT are synonymous

So yeah for your original question the CVTs were always 6 speeds throughout the model run.

no way! you never noticed how it never shifts? wasn't there a major recall on the CVT's?
