Where did you drill the hole in the firewall for installing 4ga wire for an amp?

Default Where did you drill the hole in the firewall for installing 4ga wire for an amp?

Just was faced with the situation of deciding where to drill the hole for the 4ga amp wire going to the trunk of the a4. Anyone have any inputs as to where is the best spot? Preferably somewhere next to the battery since I do have to install a large fuse there too.

Thanks!

Default Should be some free grommets in the ECU box...

...that will get you into the cabin, below the driver's knee bolster. This is how a lot of people get boost lines into the cabin for boost gauges.

Default Hmmm, is there anything possibly on the passenger side?

I just have a heck of a wire loom going down the driver side and adding a 4ga wire to the ordeal will bulge the carpet badly if it even fits at all.

Default be careful with that

Although some have done it with no issues, an amp cable carries a lot of current compared to a boost gauge. There is the potential for the electromagnetic field in the amp cable to f*ck up ecu functions. Some have reported this problem in the past.

Default Well, when I ran mine on my older A4 (B5 model), I found a grommet...

underthe dash, on the drivers side, just above the gas pedal. So from the engine bay, if I recall, you actually route the cable down below the battery box instead of through it. I don't know if that same grommet exists on the B6 though.

Otherwise, some options could be to drill a hole and route a new grommet.... or... see if somebody makes a shielded power cable, which you might get away with routing through the ecu box without any EMF issues.
