who can spew knowledge on how this connector is removed

Its easy.
You pull down on the part that youve circled, its hindged at one side, so it just ends up at 180 degrees from where it is now in the pic.. The plug comes out while your moving the purlple part..
Is that english enough? :-D

Sorry for the quick PS job...
The white-ish dot is where you should imagine a pin going through. The purple plug pivots on that. You should be able to stick a flat-end screwdriver in a small slot at the end of the pruple plug and rotate that purple plug out on the axis of the afformentioned pin. (The screwdriver is represented in purpleish...). As that purple plug rotates out, the whole assembly comes out with it. Hope that helps.
