Why is the 1.8T 10hp less on Audi vs VW?

I'm fairly new here so I'm still learning about VW's & Audi's but... Why in the world would VW allow the 1.8T to have 10 more hp on the VW? Isn't Audi the marque brand that should get the additional power?
Thanks for any thoughts...

There are rumors that the A4 has the 170 HP rating so as to make the TT stand out as a sport coupe. There are also rumors that the A4 1.8 is actually 180 HP, Audi just doesn't market it that way.

There's alot of speculation as to the actual horsepower ratings on the 1.8, it may actually be around 180. Also, they are trying to make a larger difference between the 3.0 and 1.8t.
I believe the VW has the 1.8 mounted differently, different exhaust, and different chip, but don't quote me on that.
Plus, audi pays for servicing the A4 through 50,000 miles. On a turbo engine, they try to balance power, reliability, and gas milage.
But I know what your saying, pisses me off that a turbo jetta for around 20k has as much HP as your A4 for 30+.

who used to be a head technician for another Audi dealership before switching roles. He told me that the new A4 1.8T has the same exact TT turbo design (maybe interconnections too). I took his words with a grain of salt but I tend to agree with him. Is the TT turbo placement the same as the A4s? or it positioned like the Jetta / GTIs?

when they rate the golf and jetta at 180hp. I dont see any marketing reasons in that case.
I think it is the way the engine is mounted.
Golf,tt,jetta,beetle( engine mounted the same) = 180hp
Passat,A4( engine mounted the same) = 170hp

Granted, the 1.8T Jetta is lighter and has greater torque over the same RPM as the A4 (assuming Audi isn't lying about the A4's specs), so from a standing start, the Jetta will beat an A4.
But...
1) The Jetta's 5-speed is nowhere near as smooth as the A4's. you might catch up in the time it takes the Jetta to get from 1st-4th gear.
2) There's a lot less soundproofing in the Jetta. Go 80 MPH and the Jetta sounds like it's going 130.
3) The A4 has much better steering, so you can actually control the 170 HP.
I love the Jetta & use one a few times a week (girlfriend) but even with a +10 HP engine, it's less of a car.
