Why is Audi not in F1 or Cart?
Or are they? I've just never heard of any of the engines used as Audi.
Usually Ferrari, Honda or BMW.
I know they do for the Lemans series though.

It seems they are exploring a few options. Much cheaper
to enter F1 by buying an existing team with entry rights (as Junkie said) than to pay the new startup costs. The new word is that Gerhard Berger (who is now departing from Williams-BMW has been in talks with VW. Plus, Audi/VW just entered a partnership with Ferrari that includes electronic development from the Ferrari F1 team. The official word is stiil "no" but they have been making their rounds in the F1 circles lately. They probably just wan to make sure they dont end up with Porsche's F1 fate. It should only be a matter of time......

I was thinking about their last attempt with the Footwork Team.
Porsche had early success with the smaller engines, but when they re-entered with the larger displacement engines in 1987 (albeit with Champ cars) with the March Chasis and then with F1 in early 1990, the engines were a failure and they retreated and stuck to road cars. I am not trying to cheapen their success in the early years, only that when they switched to the more recent formulas they found that their lack of grasp to be competitve could hurt their reputation in other areas. With the current economy and the amount of money required to enter and to develope in F1 these days, anything short of success in the first five years will be considered a failure by the bean counters.
