I am desperate b/c I already got a new car and can't afford to keep my A4 as well. But even though I am selling it cheap (at kbb price -- $25k -- even with the modifications), I have no buyers! I listed it in autotrader without the modifications, just to see (and if I got interest that way then I figured I'd part the car), but no one has called on it stock either.
Have others had so much difficulty selling?????

You will be lucky to get KBB WHOLESALE blue book.
I recently went through this with my '01 Jetta VR6. I had super low miles on it and it was in immaculate condition. It took MONTHS to come across a buyer that wanted it and I only got wholesale+$400, thats it.
The used car market is FLOODED with good cars but the main driver why it's harder to sell a used a car is the LOW financing rates on new cars. Think about it, why would someone pay nearly the same amount for a recent model used car (usually coming with a slighter higher interest rate for a used car) when they can get a great deal on a new car with super low financing for almost the same monthly payments. On top of that all of the lease deals make the matters worse.
So after going through the headaches I just went through if the interest rates are still super low as they are today you'll see me doing a dealership trade in (something I NEVER like to do but...) instead of dealing with selling private party.

mods more often than not will turn a person awy from a car unless they have the EXACT same taste as you. Youwill get more money by dropping the rpice way down and parting out your mods and reutrning the car to stock.

recover your loss. I also used cars.com, not Autotrader. Once I lowered my price to a sweet spot, I had emails in 10 minutes and a buyer within one week.
Good luck, I know how it feels when you have no bites. And don't waste your time with eBay. The scammers like eBay.com.
Never, ever accept a certified check for over the cost of your vehicle.

that folks could get an '05 for <30k. You have to look at it from the buyers perspective not the KBB value. Buy an 02 for 25k or wait a little and get an o4/05 for just a few thousand more

subtract 5k and now you're talking reality.
Car's depreciate, and unless the appeal to the buyer's emotions... they usually are never worth what the asking price is.
