Why do most people hate manual transmissions?

There are millions of things that humans can do better than ANY machine. I don't buy a manual transmission because I make it to 60mph a second faster (or whatever). I get it because I don't want a computer "deciding" that it is time to go to the next gear. The 'tip' is just a compromise that drives me bananas (and I have spent days with one). I think most Americans buy autos so they can eat their chicken nuggets while they drive

I liked it better than any auto I'd ever driven. Upshifting was pretty smooth. But there was still that hesitation when manually downshifting and immediately asking for power that threw me back in the manual camp.
The twin clutch DSG is a stroke of genius and if can be made reliable will be my bet for getting me in a car with no clutch pedal. But expect they will always be a more expensive option than CVT, and CVT will make 90% of people happy. Just we purists (prefer that word to Luddite) will want to spend the extra dinero.

And, yes, Ludite is a good word but certainly wouldn't be correct for the DSG:
Lud-dite (ludit)n. 1. Any of a group of British workers who between 1811 and 1816 rioted and destroyed laborsaving textile machinery in the belief that such machinery would diminish employment. 2. One who opposes technical or technological change.[After Ned Ludd, an English laborer who was supposed to have destroyed weaving machinery around 1779.]--Lud'dism n.

turbo lag as anything else... were you using manual mode to downshoft? ive said many times that manual isnt as efficient as just in D...
Urm, im just trying to think now, all I can say from my experience is that after teaching the car to drive sportily, I do not experience any lag on the 2.0 non turbo car, and it is by no mean a sporty engine. The revs will rise without any problems for the car to seamlessly accelerate, I mean, this is a system that was banned by formula one in 1993 and replaced with the SMG type system which was legal but slower
