been like that since i bought the car in 2004 with 32K miles. had the timing belt done at 70K with new coolant. car start, idles, runs, heats, cools, boosts, and pulls fine, and there's no leaks. i'm going to send my oil to Blackstone for testing next oil change.

Hard water system fill up will provoke similar reactions from the corrosion inhibitors coagulating the minerals along with the cooling system materials abrading from cavitation and localized boiling erosion.

basically the anti-corrosive properties of you coolant mix are not sufficient to prevent rust from the cast iron engine block.
You should flush the system....<ul><li><a href="http://www.prestone.com/products/coolingSystemTreatments.php">http://www.prestone.com/products/coolingSystemTreatments.php</a</li></ul>

Jiffy lube put the green coolant in my buddies passat and the same brown pudding developed. We flushed the system two times with water, with very little success. The sludge was stubborn and we had to use detergent to break it down. We added a little HE(low sudsing) washing machine detergent and drove around for about an hour. We drained the remaining crap out and flushed with water again, then filled the system with a 60/40 mix of g12. Now his engine is squeaky clean.

I asked the dealer I go to and he said it was fine as long as the car wasn't overheating (which it's not). Also he said that when they do the timing belt they would flush it out. I am under warranty and no one but a dealer has serviced this vehicle so I guess it's okay...

Used Prestones Super Heavy Duty Rad cleaner on my 1993 Audi 90 V6, after changing head gaskets, and the stuff worked perfectly!
