Default why does my coolant look like this?

been like that since i bought the car in 2004 with 32K miles. had the timing belt done at 70K with new coolant. car start, idles, runs, heats, cools, boosts, and pulls fine, and there's no leaks. i'm going to send my oil to Blackstone for testing next oil change.

Default If the wrong coolent is mixed with the OE coolent results in a brown colored precipitation...

Hard water system fill up will provoke similar reactions from the corrosion inhibitors coagulating the minerals along with the cooling system materials abrading from cavitation and localized boiling erosion.

Default Rust-ferrous oxide....

basically the anti-corrosive properties of you coolant mix are not sufficient to prevent rust from the cast iron engine block.

You should flush the system....<ul><li><a href="http://www.prestone.com/products/coolingSystemTreatments.php">http://www.prestone.com/products/coolingSystemTreatments.php</a</li></ul>

Default Tip from experience....

Jiffy lube put the green coolant in my buddies passat and the same brown pudding developed. We flushed the system two times with water, with very little success. The sludge was stubborn and we had to use detergent to break it down. We added a little HE(low sudsing) washing machine detergent and drove around for about an hour. We drained the remaining crap out and flushed with water again, then filled the system with a 60/40 mix of g12. Now his engine is squeaky clean.

There are specialized products available to clean and flush coolant systems, with instructions...

I provided a URL below, in a previous post ;o)

Default Mine looks like that too

I asked the dealer I go to and he said it was fine as long as the car wasn't overheating (which it's not). Also he said that when they do the timing belt they would flush it out. I am under warranty and no one but a dealer has serviced this vehicle so I guess it's okay...

Supposedly all otc radiator cleaners are pointless except the 2-part formulas.

Default I've used it several times over the years, on various cars, and it works...

Used Prestones Super Heavy Duty Rad cleaner on my 1993 Audi 90 V6, after changing head gaskets, and the stuff worked perfectly!
