See my reply for info about the porsche system...staggering really doesn't affect awd...

Default ESP is designed to work with four equally sized wheels and tires...

Because porsche sells their cars with a different wheel setup, obviously they program it to have different tolerances. For example, with quattro, if you start from a stop with staggered wheels, your rears will obviously have more grip. Now in some situations, this might not be a problem, but if the difference is great enough, the ESP will think your fronts are slipping and start playing with the brakes. Porsche designs its AWD systems slightly differently so that this won't happen.
