Default Why won't my OBD-II cable work?

When I go to run the "test" on COM1, it say's "Port Status: OK, Interface: Not found"

I've already made sure the port on the cable is set to COM1 and that the driver is up to date but it's not finding it.... argh!!

The computer is finding the USB Serial Port & says that the new hardware is ready to use so why the F is this thing not being found by the VAG-COM software??

Default Set it to COM 2. I've tried with COM 1 when I first got it and it didn't recgonize it.

Have you tried setting it to another port yet?

Default The cable must be connected to the diagnostics port on the car, and the ignition ON, ..

otherwise the interface has no power, and will not be visible to the PC/VAG-COM during test.

Default Bought it off Ebay.

I already had another one working from the same place but gave that one to my Dad.

I'm running XP & tried both version 409.1 & 704 but neither can find the cable when I so the test.

Default Not true. My old cable was detected without being attached to the car.

When I ran the test it said port status OK & interface found. Can't figure out why this one isn't doing the same?!

Default I believe diagnosticator1 is correct, the newer versions have to be on the car...

I helped a guy locally who had the same issue. Once connected to the car it worked fine. It was an eBay USB cable too.

Default In addition, ...

the latest version of VAG-COM that will run using a non Ross-Tech interface cable is v409. The later versions require the hardware dongle of a genuine Ross-Tech interface cable to run full capability.
