Will 255/35/20 Fit an A4?

It is not recommended to go over the 3% difference figure, if you do this will give you an error on your speedo and could cause major problems with any ABS, ESP, and especially quattro systems. This is also a general rule of thumb with all plus fitments. The 20" fitments that you guys are running are over 6%. Again I cannot tell you what to do I can just say that if you do go over the 3% and have problems, this could seriously affect car warrenty issues and tire warrenty issues.

the 20" that people have usually fall within the 3% rule. I have done many fitments on all vehicles with 20s and I keep them all within the 3% diameter rule. Again, the OE (sport) is 235/45/17 (25.4" diameter), a 235/35/19 is also 25.4 as is a 265/30/19 at 25.4". But as you increase to a 20", you go to a 245/35/20 the diameter is 26.9(1.5" greater) and a 255/35/20 is 27.0, so you can see that the overall diameter is almost 2" larger and a lot greater than 3%. Again, I cannot tell you what to do, but it is not recommended. Of course I just do this for a living so what do I know

Although I aprreciate your input, I would prefer a study to verify this, or even a story from a user having problems. Yes, I know it will throw of the speedometer, just wondering if any other problems will occur as a result.. And yes, I know you work at a tire company, yet I would hardly say that constitues you an expert in the field of suspension mechanics, or quattro system. No offense meant, just would like further input than "I don't recommend it."

Call Marc at AMS or anyone at any of the tuning shops for their opinion. I think that you will see that same feedback coming from all sources.

but for what it is worth, a 265/30/19 with the correct offset will fit in the back of an '02 Avant. This was tested on mine at HRE's facility. But that means a staggered fitment and I do not want to go into those issues, especially with Quattro

Even then, there "might" be rubbing issues depending on sport, non sport, aftermarket springs etc. and then theres the use of spacers etc.
Not an argument per say rather then many different ways to accomodate the wider tire and then theres the sidewall measurement 35 or 30 as you are well aware.
Most 19" equiped A4's Ive heard of ran 235/35/19 or 235/30/19 but never a 255.

I did a 19" test fitment and with the staggered fitment, you can put a 265/30/19 on the rear (but you need the 235/35/19 fronts to match the diameter), not that I would ever do that. But on the front, a 245 is the widest you can go. I also did a 235/40/18 & 265/35/18 stagger and it fit too. Just FYI
