Default Will insurance cover aftermarket wheels?

I wrecked one of my MTM Bimoto's on a raised manhole cover.

Any chance of insurance covering this kind of damage?

Default I think it might if you're paying extra for the wheels in your insurance plan

Probably best to call them

Default I'll do that...

Is this something fairly common with auto insurance plans? An option for coverage on expensive aftermarket parts? IF its not too expensive then I'd definitely do it! Replacing a $1000 wheel sucks *****.

Default Yeah, I think most will cover aftermarket stuff, but you'll obviously be paying

more for it.

Default Did you get a police report?

This way you could of had some "official record" and probably got'n the city to pay for the damaged wheel.

File a claim against your insurace, but dont be suprised if your rates go up!

Default It depends if you went with a cut-rate company or not

If you went with a carrier that you never heard of before getting insurance with them, because they were the cheapest price, then coverage for your aftermarket wheels is what you may have sacrificed. Most well known insurance companies will probably cover it.

However, if you went through an actual agent in person, and they did place you with a company that doesn't cover it, then you could possibly go after their E&O Insurance for failing to cover you properly (won't be easy).

Unfortunately, you get what you pay for, and if you're plan on putting a lot of upgrades into your car, make sure that it's covered, by being automatically in the policy or paying a little extra for a rider. Luckily it was just a wheel this time.

Like the others said, you might be able to go to the city...

Default No cheapie insurance for me!

I always go deluxe on auto insurance...so we'll see what they say! I have been with USAA since I was a teenager and so far they've always been a good company to deal with.

In any event I'll report how it turned out!

Thanks for all the comments...this has been an interesting thread.
